Privacy notice

Version 1.0 · Last updated June 2026 · Applies to the getbuni.app waitlist

1. Who we are

Buni is a bilingual language app for families, operated by [YOUR FULL NAME OR TRADING NAME], based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the data controller of your personal information.

If you have any questions about how we handle your data, you can reach us at [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS].

2. What this notice covers

This notice explains how we handle personal data collected on the getbuni.app waitlist page — nothing more. When the Buni app launches, we will publish a separate, fuller privacy notice covering app use, child profiles and family voice recordings. That notice will comply with the UK Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code), which applies because Buni is a service likely to be accessed by children.

3. What we collect and why

When you sign up to the Buni waitlist, we collect:

We do not collect your name, date of birth, location, payment information or any special category data at this stage. We do not collect any data about children.

Legal basis: We rely on your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) when you submit the signup form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing — every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing we carried out before you withdrew it.

4. How long we keep it

We will keep your email address on our waitlist until you unsubscribe, or until we send the launch notification — whichever comes first. After that, unless you sign up to the Buni app itself, your email address will be deleted from our waitlist system within [30 / 60 / 90] days.

5. Who we share your data with

We use [EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDER — e.g. Mailchimp / ConvertKit / Buttondown / beehiiv] to manage our waitlist. Your email address is stored on their servers in accordance with their own privacy policy: [LINK TO EMAIL PROVIDER'S PRIVACY POLICY].

We do not sell, rent, share or otherwise disclose your personal data to any other third party.

6. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — ask us to correct any inaccurate data
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data ("the right to be forgotten")
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
  • Withdrawal of consent — unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by emailing us directly
  • Complain — lodge a complaint with the ICO (see section 9)

To exercise any of these rights, please email [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS]. We will respond within one calendar month.

7. Cookies and tracking

The getbuni.app waitlist page uses minimal cookies. Specifically:

We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or any third-party behavioural tracking on this page.

8. Children's data

The getbuni.app waitlist page is intended for adults — parents and carers. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 13, and we have not designed this page to be appealing to or used by children directly.

When the Buni app launches, it will process data relating to children's language learning. At that point we will publish a full privacy notice designed to meet the requirements of the UK Children's Code, and we will apply the highest standards of data minimisation and privacy by default.

9. Contact us and the ICO

If you have any questions or concerns about how we handle your data, please contact us first — we'd like the chance to help:

📧 [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS]

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to make a complaint to the UK's supervisory authority:

Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

ICO registration number: [YOUR ICO REGISTRATION NUMBER — register at ico.org.uk/registration, ~£40/year for micro-organisations]

10. Changes to this notice

As Buni grows, we will update this notice. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the current version. For material changes, we will notify waitlist subscribers by email.
